US-based Bardstown Bourbon Company (BBCo) is set to launch a collaborative wine-finished bourbon expression in 2020.

The company has collaborated with California-based The Prisoner Wine Company for Bardstown Bourbon Company & The Prisoner Wine Collaboration expression.

Containing 50% alcohol by volume (ABV), the nine-year-old Tennessee bourbon expression is said to have been aged in The Prisoner red wine barrels for 18 months.

The Prisoner Wine Company winemaking director Chrissy Wittmann said: “The Prisoner Wine Company’s ethos is rooted in collaboration, from the relationships between our winemaking team and our family of over 100 growing partners to the harmony we find blending together unusual varietals.

“We strive to do things differently and it’s exciting that our namesake wine will add to the mystique of this new bourbon.”

Launching in January, the latest expression will be added to BBCo’s Collaborative Series.

The line of finished bourbons series also includes bourbons, finished in brandy and Muscat Mistelle barrels this year.

The Bardstown Bourbon Company master distiller Steve Nally said: “This spirit is very complex, with a welcoming bouquet of blackberry and black cherry, blended with honey and vanilla. The luxury wine blend’s red fruit flavours take the lead on the palate.”

Initially, the expression will be available for purchase at all existing markets of Bardstown Bourbon Company in the US for $124.99 per 750ml bottle.

In 2020, the expression will be rolled out to new markets across the US, including Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Ohio.

In September 2017, BBCo partnered with Copper & Kings American Brandy Company (C&K) to release two distinct products under the Collabor&tion brand made with ten-year-old straight bourbon whiskey.
