North America’s drinks industry saw a drop of 12.7% in overall deal activity during Q4 2019, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 62 deals worth $612.07m were announced for the region during Q4 2019, against the last four-quarter average of 71 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in Q4 2019 with 35, representing a 56.5% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with 25 deals, followed by private equity deals with two transactions, respectively capturing a 40.3% and 3.2% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s drinks industry with $484.41m, followed by venture financing deals totalled $127.65m.

The top five drinks deals accounted for 83.5% of the overall value during Q4 2019.

The combined value of the top five drinks deals stood at $511.34m, against the overall value of $612.07m recorded for the quarter.

5) SeedInvest Technology’s venture financing of Winc,Inc for $14.99m.
