Total beverage industry deals worth $316.33m were announced globally for January 2021, with the $238m acquisition of Luxco being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 80.1% over the previous month of $1.59bn and a drop of 81.4% when compared with the last 12-month average of $1.7bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 26.83% with 30 deals in January 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 41 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $252.25m in January 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $303.54m, against the overall value of $316.33m recorded for the month.
