US-based distillery Beam Suntory’s brand Tyrconnell has added a limited edition Tyrconnell 15-year-old Madeira Cask Finish single malt Irish whisky to its portfolio.

The new Tyrconnell product is aged for 15 years in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Madeira wine casks from Portugal’s Madeira Island.

It is produced in traditional pot stills and undergoes double distillation, which Tyrconnell claims creates a creamier whisky.

Tyrconnell global brand ambassador John Cashman said: “We knew we had discovered something special when we first began experimenting with finishing The Tyrconnell in Madeira casks.

“We knew we had discovered something special when we first began experimenting with finishing The Tyrconnell in Madeira casks.”

“Because we are in the fortunate position of being one of the oldest Irish whisky-producing companies, we have the patience to wait 15 long years to present something truly remarkable.

“The 15-year-old Tyrconnell finished in Madeira casks is a beautifully rich and spicy spirit, one that I like to enjoy neat or over a few cubes.”

The product is made with Irish barley and spring water. Its alcohol by volume (ABV) is 46%.

The whisky’s aroma is of sweet vanilla, banana bread and deep red fruit skin accompanied by hints of hazelnut and dark sugar.

Its initial soft taste explodes into a spicy flavour with Peach Melba tones that coat the mouth.

The spirit will be released in select US markets in March with a suggested price of $100 for a 750ml bottle.

The brand’s portfolio includes Tyrconnell, Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish, Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Port Cask Finish, Tyrconnell 10 Sherry Cask Finish and Tyrconnell 16 Year Old Limited Edition.
