Plymouth Gin has introduced Mr King’s 1842 Recipe, which is a combination of orris root and handpicked juniper ingredients.

The new special edition craft gin is said to be the first special edition in a series of craft gins.

Produced using a recipe from 1842, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe was specially crafted by Plymouth’s master distiller Sean Harrison by combining the two ingredients from a single harvest day in the mountains of Frontignano, Italy.

Harrison said: “Mr King’s 1842 Recipe is a truly one-off craft gin that we will never be able to recreate again. Even if we were to visit the same Italian hillside next year, the climate and harvest conditions would affect the juniper resulting in a different taste profile.

“At a time when other brands are using many different botanicals throughout the distillation process, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe focuses on just two and the result is something very special. It’s an honour to bring Mr King’s gin into the 21st century.”

The company noted that Mr King’s 1842 Recipe is produced using Plymouth Gin’s classic distilling style. Its creamy texture has been balanced with the floral notes of orris root, offering hints of lavender and pine, for a long and complex finish.

With only 2,000 cases produced, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe is a limited edition variant.

Beginning this month, Mr King’s 1842 Recipe is available for purchase through the company’s website as well as at The Whisky Exchange, Covent Garden and Fitzrovia for recommended retail price (RRP) of £45.50.
