Taiwanese whiskey distillery Kavalan has launched two limited tenth-anniversary special editions called Kavalan Bordeaux Margaux and Kavalan Bordeaux Pauillac.

Kavalan Bordeaux Margaux is a single malt whiskey with notes of caramel, buttery fudge and molasses, as well as creamy vanilla.

Bordeaux Pauillac offers flavours of ripened forest fruits and toffee apple, in addition to cumin, coriander and pepper.

Kavalan CEO YT Lee said: “At Kavalan, we have always sought excellence as a foundation for our whiskey as we look into the future and work toward our goal of becoming, what in Taiwan we call a ‘century-old distillery,’ which is a brand capable of thriving even after hundreds of years.”

“We have always sought excellence as a foundation for our whiskey.”

Bottled at 57.8% alcohol by volume (ABV) at 1,000ml, each edition is encased in a deluxe gift box set with two Glencairn glasses and limited to 3,000 bottles.

Kavalan Master blender Ian Chang explained that he and Lee travelled to the historic wine estates of France and handpicked the finest Bordeaux wine casks to age Kavalan’s whiskey within the subtropical climate of Yilan, Taiwan.

Chang said: “We were intrigued by the distinctive flavours that might be possible from this unique marriage between Kavalan, where we pursue perfection daily, and these prestigious chateaux known for their centuries of excellence.”

Each 1,000ml limited edition gift box set is priced at an RRP of NT$8,800 ($285). Global releases are scheduled for next year.
