Europe’s drinks industry saw a drop of 25% in overall deal activity during Q4 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 24 deals worth $109.4m were announced for the region during Q4 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 32 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q4 2020 with 12, representing a 50% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with ten deals, followed by private equity deals with two transactions, respectively capturing a 41.7% and 8.3% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in Europe’s drinks industry with $104.36m, followed by venture financing deals totalled $5.05m.

The top five drinks deals accounted for 98.9% of the overall value during Q4 2020.

The combined value of the top five drinks deals stood at $108.23m, against the overall value of $109.4m recorded for the quarter.

2) The $17.86m acquisition of Coffee Bonomi by Musetti

3) Crowdcube Capital, Future Fund (UK) and The North East Venture Fund’s $1.87m venture financing of Tea Venture

4) The $1.42m venture financing of Skinny tonic by Seedrs

5) Crowdcube Capital’s venture financing of Bedlam Brewery for $0.59m.
