Europe’s drinks industry saw a rise of 6.9% in overall deal activity during Q3 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 31 deals worth $220.96m were announced for the region during Q3 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 29 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q3 2020 with 13, representing a 41.9% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with 12 deals, followed by private equity deals with six transactions, respectively capturing a 38.7% and 19.4% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, private equity was the leading category in Europe’s drinks industry with $200.04m, while venture financing and M&A deals totalled $13.02m and $7.9m, respectively.

The top five drinks deals accounted for 97.7% of the overall value during Q3 2020.

The combined value of the top five drinks deals stood at $215.95m, against the overall value of $220.96m recorded for the quarter.

2) The $7m venture financing of The Clean Liquor by James Cox and Ursula Burns

3) Bayn Europe’s $4.72m acquisition of Amerpharma

4) The $2.47m acquisition of Brestskoye Pivo by Multigroup Trade

5) Crowdcube Capital’s venture financing of Sliabh Liag Distillers for $1.76m.
