Scottish whisky distillery Tomatin has expanded its single malt whisky offering with the launch of the new limited-edition expression Decades II.

The company said that its new expression has been matured in 21 casks over the last five decades.

Decades II is said to be a rich and complex expression that has been matured in Scotch whisky, ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry and re-charred French oak casks.

With 46% alcohol by volume (ABV), Decades II offers an initial burst of fruits and aromas of both cooked fruits and floral coconut tones with hints of sweet pastry and wood shavings.

The company further added that the new expression comes with notes of Christmas cake, maple syrup and fresh red berries with a tropical finish.

Tomatin distillery operations director Graham Eunson said: “Balancing the flavour profiles of just a few casks can be a real challenge, so to marry five decades of Tomatin whisky in such a way that each cask compliments the next is a testament to the team, both those who work at Tomatin today and those that worked at Tomatin before us, who distilled and laid down some of the casks we have used.

“We have been the custodians of exceptional Scotch for generations, and that care and experience is showcased by Decades II.”

The company has launched only 3,600 bottles of Decades II, which can be purchased for £175.

In 2011, the Original Decades expression was released to mark the previous distillery manager’s commitment to the distillery.

In February 2018, Tomatin launched the final two expressions from its limited-edition Five Virtues series.
