Tata Global Beverages (TGBL) is reportedly planning to build a tea manufacturing and warehousing unit in Odisha, India.

As per TGBL’s regulatory filing, the company signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Tata Steel’s subsidiary Tata Steel Special Economic Zone for setting up the new facility in Gopalpur Industrial Park. The LoI was exchanged during the Make in Odisha Conclave business event in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.

The two companies estimate an aggregate investment of Rs1bn ($13.8m) will be needed for construction.

“Spare storage capacity will also be offered to TGBL’s subsidiaries, associates and joint-venture (JV) companies.”

The facility will have the capacity to produce approximately 36 million kilograms of tea per annum. It is expected to begin production by 2020 after obtaining all the necessary statutory and regulatory clearances.

The plant will also feature warehousing facilities for storing the tea products. Spare storage capacity will also be offered to TGBL’s subsidiaries, associates and joint-venture (JV) companies.

TGBL is an Indian multinational non-alcoholic beverages company and is a subsidiary of the Tata Group.

The company is one of the largest manufacturers of tea and coffee. It entered the Indian cafe market in 2012 through a 50/50 JV with Starbucks Coffee Company.

In August last year, Tata Global Beverages also moved into the natural mineral water market through a partnership with flavoured sparkling water manufacturer Talking Rain.
