Global coffee company Starbucks is planning to tap the $1.2bn packaged tea products category with the launch of its Teavana brand.

As part of the new initiative, six new Teavana sachets will be released at grocery outlets across the US.

Available flavours of packaged tea products are Youthberry, Peach Tranquillity, Citrus Lavender, Jade Citrus Mint, Imperial Spiced Chai and Earl Grey Créme.

Youthberry flavour is a white tea blend with tropical, floral and citrus flavours, including mango, orange, hibiscus and rose petals.

“We remain committed to executing our plan to increase our tea business to $3bn over the next five years Starbucks stores.”

Peach Tranquility offers herbal flavours of lemon and verbena with a chamomile finish, and Citrus Lavender combines zesty orange and sweet pineapple with lavender blossom and sage.

Teavana’s Jade Citrus Mint flavour offers lemon citrus flavours with a green tea and spearmint finish, while the Imperial Spiced Chai combines traditional chai spices with a Chinese oolong tea base.

The Earl Grey Créme features creamy vanilla and soft lavender, which are added to a black tea and top-quality bergamot citrus fruit oil.

President of Starbucks International’s channel development and the Global Coffee & Tea group, John Culver, said: “The launch of Teavana packaged tea in the grocery is just the beginning of the journey to bring consumers some of their Teavana favourites in a new, accessible format where they purchase their groceries.

“Since our acquisition of Teavana five years ago, we have continued to innovate within the tea category and build distribution outside of Starbucks stores.

“We remain committed to executing our plan to increase our tea business to $3bn over the next five years through Starbucks global retail, packaged tea, and ready-to-drink (RTD) premium Teavana Craft Iced Teas.”
