Pernod Ricard’s Our/New York has released a new basil-infused vodka called Our/New York Basil.

The new vodka variant has been infused with real basil that is sourced locally in New York City from urban farm company Square Roots.

For its new release, Our/New York partnered with Rethink Food for adding a gentle basil flavour to the spirit.

Rethink Food is a non-profit firm, which aims to create a sustainable and equitable food system by transforming excess food into nutritious meals.

Rethink Food founder and CEO Matt Jozwiak said: “There is a collective urgency to create lasting change in our food system, especially in such challenging times.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Our/New York and Square Roots to reduce food waste and raise awareness on food insecurity.”

For creating Our/New York Basil, the distillery claims that it used hand-chopped basil and added a mixture of base spirit and water before allowing it to infuse for 24 hours.

The liquid is then filtered and distilled to remove the basil while retaining its distinct flavour.

Finally, the basil distillate is blended with water and corn-based neutral spirit and is hand-bottled at the distillery.

Our/New York local partner Dave Ortiz said: “We’re thrilled to align with local partners to repurpose this beautiful ingredient and use it to create something truly unique, a ‘sustainable spirit’.

“Working with a fresh ingredient like basil is an intricate process, requiring a lot of time and care to get just right. It’s a complex, yet familiar flavour that makes for a really compelling drink on its own or in any number of cocktails.”

Our/New York said that its new limited-edition variant will be available at select retailers, bars and restaurants across New York City.
