Spanish wine maker Gonzålez Byass has acquired the Huneeus family’s controlling stake in Veramonte, a winery in Chile.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

This acquisition will help González to enhance its product portfolio with Veramonte brands, as well as strengthening its distribution operations in the US.

The González family was quoted by just-drinks.com as saying: "By taking this step out of Spanish wine production, we are reinforcing our strategy towards the internationalisation of the company, whilst strengthening both our portfolio of brands and international distribution operation."

Veramont’s brands Neyen, Primus, Ritual and Veramonte are presently being distributed across 37 countries, including the US.

Veramonte has two winemaking facilities and more than 600ha of vineyards, spread across in Casablanca, Colchagua, and Apalta Valley.

Recently, González forayed into DO Rías Baixas, Spain, with the acquisition of the Pazos de Lusco estate.

Currently, the company has presence in Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez, Somontano, Penedes, Rioja, Castilla-La Mancha, and Rueda in Spain.
