Double Canyon Vineyard, a brand of Crimson Wine Group, plans to begin constuction on a new wine-making facility in West Richland, Washington.

Within a year, the firm will shift all wine-making activities in-house in order to focus on production of wines that reflect the region.

Double Canyon produces Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills appellation.

"Having our own winery will allow an even higher focus on quality and provide a footprint for growth in Washington State."

Double Canyon general manager and winegrower Will Beightol said: "We are committed to making best-in-class Washington Cabernet, anchored by our estate vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills.

"The construction of this new winemaking facility will allow us to control all aspects of winemaking."

The company plans will break ground on its new 47,000ft² West Richland facility in August.

The new facility is expected to be operational by next year and will have an initial production capacity of approximately 50,000 cases, which will be enhanced at a later stage.

Besides situated close to Horse Heaven Hills, the winemaking facility is central to amenities of the greater Tri Cities area and near Washington State University’s new wine research facility.

Crimson Wine Group president and CEO Patrick DeLong said: "Crimson Wine Group is committed to developing our Northwest wine portfolio.

"Having our own winery will allow an even higher focus on quality and provide a footprint for growth in Washington State."

Double Canyon Vineyard was established in 2007.
