Oregon-based Craft Brew Alliance is set to expand the distribution of Kona Brewing brand to three new states – Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin – in the US.

The brewery will initially sell Kona Brewing brand’s Longboard Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale.

Craft Brew Alliance brand marketing senior director Robert Rentsch was quoted by Brewbound as saying that they are pleased to expand Kona Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale to Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin.

"Last year at this time when we started our expansion in the Midwest, consumers were excited to enjoy a Kona brew and the Liquid Aloha spirit. We’re looking forward to brightening up this winter and bringing some Liquid Aloha to consumers in our three newest states," Rentsch added.

According to Chicago-based research group, IRI, Kona Longboard Lager was the 15th largest craft brand in the US retail outlets and convenience stores at the end of 1 December 2013.

Total sales of Craft Brew Alliance’s beers touched $16.2m through 3 October 2013, up 20% over 2012 figures.

Of the total sales, Kona Longboard Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale accounted for 75% of the brand’s gains.

In addition to Kona Longboard Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale, the brewery also produces the Widmer Brothers, Redhook, Omission Beer and Square Mile Cider brands.
