Diageo’s brand Guinness has expanded its portfolio with the release of Baltimore-brewed Salt & Lime Ale beer across select cities in the mid-Atlantic region of the US.

Salt & Lime Ale is balanced with key lime puree and sea salt from the mouth of the Chesapeake.

With 5% alcohol by volume (ABV), Salt & Lime Ale beer is said to offer a ‘balanced’ combination of key lime puree and sea salt.

The brand claims that its pale-yellow ale comes with forwarding notes of lime peel, biscuit and light salt.

Guinness said that the locally-sourced, hand-harvested sea salt adds a layer of complexity to the finish.

Guinness Open Gate Brewery Baltimore brewmaster Peter Wiens said: “Guinness is all about honouring tradition with our own unique and iconic spin.

“Our historic yeast that makes our stouts so special is used in almost every experimental beer we create and Salt & Lime Ale is no exception. It represents much of why we’re here in America.

“To innovate and create is also at the core of the Guinness tradition and we’re excited to indulge and maybe even surprise people with this crisp and refreshing tasting ale.”

Salt & Lime Ale is a limited-edition release that can be purchased at select areas including Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia as well as at the brewery’s taproom.

Outside the brewery, the beer will be sold in six-packs of 12oz cans at a suggested retail price (SRP) of $10.99.

Earlier this month, Guinness expanded its portfolio by releasing Guinness Nitro Cold Brew Coffee beer in the US market.

With a distinct rich coffee aroma, the dark beer offers a balanced bitter and sweet taste with a roast coffee flavour.

With 4% alcohol by volume (ABV), the new addition is brewed using cold brew coffee extract and coffee flavours, resulting in a smooth and creamy palate with hints of espresso, chocolate and caramel.
