Delicato Family Wines in California, US, has agreed to purchase the majority of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola’s winery assets.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As agreed, Delicato will acquire the Francis Ford Coppola wine portfolio, as well as the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, the Virginia Dare Winery and the Archimedes Vineyard, all located in Sonoma County.

In turn, Coppola will hold an equity stake in Delicato Family Wines and will join its board.

The combination is expected to create one of the largest wine suppliers in the US market as well as a leading exporter of Californian Wines.

Francis and the Coppola Family will continue to operate the Inglenook and Domaine de Broglie Winery and vineyard, which are not a part of this deal.

Delicato president and CEO Chris Indelicato said: “There is a strong cultural fit between our two companies and by combining two highly complementary portfolios, we create a more diversified winery.

“This places us in a strong position in key growth categories to capitalise on positive market trends, drive profitable growth and create opportunities for our employees.

“This is an exciting and significant expansion for Delicato Family Wines as we bring Francis Ford Coppola Winery and their brands under our portfolio. We look forward to leveraging Francis Ford Coppola’s creativity and fine wine capabilities that have appealed to consumers, distributors and retailers globally, further bolstering our portfolio strategy.”

The transaction is expected to close this month, subject to regulatory approvals.

Subsequently, Delicato and Coppola will start working to combine the two companies and ensure a seamless transition for employees, suppliers, and customers alike.
