Albertsons Companies has added Kalyana sustainable wines to its portfolio of Own Brands products to promote ecological balance and biodiversity.

Crafted from selected vineyards in California’s Central Coast in the US, the Kalyana wines are being offered in three varietals, namely a 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, a 2018 Pinot Noir and a 2019 Chardonnay.

Own Brands senior vice-president Chad Coester said: “Our team is driven by an innovative spirit and a passion for providing our customers with products they want.

“We are proud to continue to drive progress on our sustainability commitments with our exclusive brands only available at our Albertsons Cos family of stores.”

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon wine is made from dark red fruit, subtle spice and round tannins.

Featuring a long, smooth finish, the 2018 Pinot Noir wine provides consumers with notes of black cherry and baking spices.

The 2019 Chardonnay crisp wine offers notes of green apple, pear and creamy vanilla in addition to a hint of oak.

Albertsons will offer Kalyana sustainable wines from its stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Carrs, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Shaw’s, Star Market, United Supermarkets, Market Street and Haggen.

The retailer said its Own Brands team has achieved several sustainability goals, including offering 100% of the seafood in its waterfront Bistro and Open Nature brands featuring the Responsible Choice logo.

The logo indicates that the product complies with Albertsons’ responsible seafood policy.

Albertsons also offers O Organics coffee under the Own Brands products, which is 100% certified sustainable by Fair Trade USA.

Additionally, the retailer’s Open Nature home cleaning products under Own Brands are approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice programme.
