India-based Patanjali Ayurveda plans to launch its liquid milk product, aiming to become a Rs100bn ($146m) company by 2017.

Established in 2006, the company manufactures noodles and juice products.

It forayed into the dairy sector two years ago with the launch of ghee (clarified butter) products. The company now also manufactures milk powder.

"This plant will become operational by the end of this year and will cater to the liquid milk product business."

Patanjali Ayurveda has a manufacturing plant at Haridwar, Uttarakhand, a state in the northern area of India. The company also intends to open a dairy facility in Maharashtra in the western part of the country.

With consumers growing health conscious, the demand for milk is growing and the company intends to tap this market.

Patanjali also sells a wide range of personal care products, including cosmetics.

The company also has its manufacturing facility in Nepal and imports most of the herbs used in its products from the Himalayan country.
