Nestlé Waters North America has secured certification for its sites in Sacramento and Livermore in California, US.

The certification was achieved after the sites met global Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) requirements. These standards measure responsible water stewardship across social, environmental, and economic criteria for efficient, collaborative, and transparent methods such as reverse osmosis (RO), advanced water mapping, and xeriscaping.

Nestlé Waters aimed to certify 20 of its bottling factories to the AWS Standard by 2020. The company’s chief sustainability officer Nelson Switzer said: “Aligning to the AWS Standard puts Nestlé Waters at the vanguard of a new movement for water stewardship and conservation worldwide.

“The certification was achieved after the sites met global Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) requirements.”

“By achieving and maintaining AWS certification at these sites, we will continue to be at the forefront of the best water resource management practices around the world.”

The AWS Standard certification is reported to have been awarded to a total of nine sites.

Nestlé Waters initially obtained the standard for its Ontario factory, which is also located in California. It intends to work towards certifying all five of its water-bottling sites in the state by the end of this year.

By aligning with the standard, the factories are estimated to generate combined savings of more than 20 million gallons of water by the end of the year.
