Norwegian brewer Ægir has teamed up with Crown Bevcan Europe and Middle East to commence the canning process for its beers.

The hand-crafted beers are produced at Ægir's facility in Flåm, Norway.

Ægir intends to shift from bottles to cans as the latter offers a wide range of benefits.

"We are delighted to be partnering with Ægir."

The can format will enable the Norwegian brewer to make use of a complete platform to launch a range of complex concepts that will appeal to wider consumers.

Denmark-based artist Leo Griffin designed the can. To develop it, Griffin worked closely with Crown’s European design studio and Ægir.

To provide an enriching experience to consumers, Ægir chose the Crown 360 End. This format lets consumers completely remove the lid and smell the content inside the can.

Crown marketing and business development director Matt Twiss was quoted by foodbev.com as saying: “We are delighted to be partnering with Ægir.

"The brewery clearly recognises the inherent benefits metal packaging has to offer in terms of brand promotion and also, importantly, its credentials from a sustainability perspective.

"Metal packaging is 100% recyclable, and unlike most other packaging materials can be infinitely recycled with no loss of physical properties, a message we continue to reinforce through the Metal Recycles Forever campaign.”

Ægir Bryggeri founder Evan W Lewis was quoted by the website as saying: “Cans were the obvious choice for us as they deliver on many levels, from taste and quality to portability and sustainability. Working with Crown has truly helped us to realise that potential.”
