Taiwanese whisky distillery Kavalan has launched a Car Group 40th Anniversary Limited Edition, to mark the 40th anniversary of its parent company King Car Group.

The expression has been matured in a red wine cask to produce the single malt whisky.

King Car Group CEO YT Lee said: “I am honoured to be part of the journey first begun by my father four decades ago. King Car has always strived hard to deliver the finest quality, a pursuit that defines our character and this insistence on excellence will continue into the future.”

The anniversary edition offers notes of red wine exuding dark-skinned Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, as well as strawberry, bilberry and spice at the nose, along with toffee-rich berry fruits, enlivened with flares of spice, notably pepper, clove and tobacco at the palette.

At the finish, King Car 40th Anniversary edition offers a gentle mix of signature fruits and soft spices.

Kavalan master blender Ian Chang said: “It’s been aged in a very rare red wine cask whose majesty transfers to a richly intense whisky, delivering very distinct berry flavours and luxuriant toffee.”

Packaged in 1500ml bottle, The King Car 40th Anniversary comes encased with a crystal glass tumbler with only 10,000 bottles available globally.

In September, Kavalan expanded its Concertmaster range with the launch of Concertmaster Sherry Finish.

With 40% alcohol by volume (ABV), the Kavalan Concertmaster Sherry Finish is double-matured in Spain’s Sherry casks following ageing in the distillery’s special reserve of refill casks.
