International Breweries’ new $250m facility is set to be inaugurated by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.

Founded by Lawrence Omole in 1971, International Breweries is engaged in the production of beer brands such as Trophy and Hero. It is currently owned by multinational drink and brewing holdings company Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Located on the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, the brewery will be the company’s fourth plant in the country. The other three are located in Ilesa, Onitsha and Port Harcourt.

Plant manager Tony Agah said that Phase I of the development had been concluded, with more than 300 Nigerians already employed.

“We will spare no expense or effort in ensuring that Nigerians are treated to the best traditions in brewing.”

The new brewery is claimed to be AB InBev’s largest beer plant within Africa and outside South Africa region. It is in line with the company’s objective to produce high-quality drinks locally.

International Breweries’ managing director Annabelle Degroot was quoted by media sources as saying: “International Breweries is a brand that places a premium on quality.

“Bearing this in mind, we will spare no expense or effort in ensuring that Nigerians are treated to the best traditions in brewing, with outstanding recipes, superior ingredients, innovation and world-class techniques.”

At the beginning of this month, AB InBev announced plans to construct a new plant by the second half next year in the Mozambique region.

The new facility will have the capacity to produce nearly two million hectolitres of beer per year, with scope for future expansion.
