US-based coffee maker Death Wish Coffee is set to provide freeze-dried coffee for a commercial resupply service mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on 28 June.

The company’s instant-blend, freeze-dried coffee was custom-designed for the mission and is packaged by NASA in drink pouches that are suitable for opening in zero-gravity conditions.

“The company’s instant-blend, freeze-dried coffee was custom-designed for the mission.”

Death Wish Coffee founder Mike Brown said: “We couldn’t think of a better way to showcase the smoothness and strength of our coffee than by providing the crew aboard the International Space Station with an easy-to-make blend that will keep them on their feet, so to speak.”

Founded in 2012, Death Wish Coffee is claimed to be one of the strongest coffees in the world. It is created using a combination of Robusta and Arabica beans, which are brewed using a custom process to ensure a high-quality roast with 200% more caffeine than standard coffee.

Sold in 1lb bags of whole and ground beans, as well as in K-Cups, Death Wish products are currently available in more than 1,600 Walmart stores across the US, as well as at Safeway, Hannaford, Price Chopper, Market 32 and Shop Rite stores.
