The Patron Spirits Company has launched an interactive ‘Know Your NOM’ platform to enable the consumers to trace the producer of their favourite tequila.

The new digital tool is intended to help consumers find the location of the distillery and trace the producer of their bottle of tequila through the unique NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana) number.

The NOM number is a mandatory four-digit unique code assigned by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) for every bottle of tequila authentically produced and bottled in Mexico.

Powered by data from the CRT, the app contains the list of licensed tequila producers in Mexico along with the details regarding the tequila brands in the region.

The application features an interactive map of the tequila regions in Mexico, allowing the users to discover tequila distillery NOMs and the respective information by moving across the map.

Additionally, the users can search by NOM or by specific tequila brand.

Patrón global chief marketing officer Lee Applbaum said: "Tequila is one of the fastest-growing spirits categories in the world, and new brands are continually being introduced. With this expanding interest in the category, we thought it would be useful and interesting to help people search the CRT database to discover the origins of tequila brands, including ours.

"Many distilleries share their agave supply and production equipment to make several different tequila brands and this new and engaging educational tool allows people to cross reference tequila producers and their distilleries by brand, or by NOM number, to search and navigate this information."

According to the company, there are only 140 licensed tequila distilleries in Mexico but more than 1,700 registered brands of tequila.
