The Governments of Hong Kong and Argentina have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-operate and promote wine trade relations between the two countries.

The Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau and the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency CEO Juan Pablo Tripodi signed the agreements in Bueno Aires, Argentina.

The two governments will also focus on improving investment promotion, education, tourism and counterfeit prevention.

“The two governments will also focus on improving investment promotion, education, tourism and counterfeit prevention.”

Yau said: “Hong Kong and Argentina are long-time trading partners, particularly in wine trading.

“The signing of the MOU today will give impetus to that multifarious relationship. We are confident that Hong Kong is well-positioned to promote appreciation of Argentinean wines and related culinary arts in Asia.

“Hong Kong is Asia’s wine hub and a wine free-port. Hong Kong also offers a world-class business and logistics infrastructure for the wine business to thrive.”

Since August 2008, Hong Kong has signed similar wine co-operation agreements with countries such as Australia, the US and New Zealand.

The country has also entered agreements with European countries such as Chile, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Spain.
