UBM Sinoexpo, a joint venture between UBM Asia and Shanghai Sinoexpo International Exhibition, has acquired the Winexpo tradeshow from Shanghai Golden Commercial Exhibition.

Launched in 2005, Winexpo tradeshow focuses on growing Chinese wine markets and takes place every year in Shanghai during the months of May and November.

In May 2012, the tradeshow was held in Intex Shanghai, which was attended by nearly 100 exhibitors and over 5,300 trade visitors, and the next event is scheduled for 28-30 November 2012.

From 2013, Winexpo will be co-located with UBM’s existing tradeshow, Hotelex Shanghai, a China-based show for hotel supplies and equipment.

Winexpo founder Yang Jianzhuang will retain with the business as consultant and joint organizer, however, the event will be managed by Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo, according to UBM Sinoexpo managing director Zhang Xueqiang.

According to a research by the London-based International Wine and Spirit Research (IWSR), which covered 28 wine producing countries and 114 markets, Chinese wine industry has increased six fold in the past five years and is expected to generate RMB84.2bn ($13.23bn) by 2017.

UBM Asia CEO and president Jime Essink said the addition of Winexpo, alongside coffee, tea and fine food served in UBM Sinoexpo’s Hotelex Shanghai, will help it to increase its product range and meet the customers’ needs.

"Winexpo exhibitors will also benefit from exposure to Hotelex Shanghai’s visitors, many of whom are substantial wine purchasers from the hospitality and catering sectors," Essink added.
