Stone Brewing, a US-based craft brewery, has deployed a new Intelligent Lighting System, developed by Digital Lumens, to lighten its newly built 69,000ft² bottling and kegging facility in Escondido, California.

The system allows the brewery to save 86% in annual energy costs.

The brewery selected Digital Lumens system because of its lighting quality, illumination levels, energy savings and contribution to the brewery’s LEED Silver sustainability goal.

Stone Brewing associate project manager Joshua Lichtman said as a craft brewer committed to the sustainability of their business operations, the Digital Lumens system is a no-compromise solution that delivers extraordinary energy savings, while providing a level of control over how lighting is used within their facility that is truly impressive.

"Both from an energy usage and quality perspective, it has completely changed our view of what is possible with lighting. As a result, we are looking at how we can deploy smart LED lighting across our operations," Lichtman added.

The Digital Lumens system delivers an expected payback period of 1.77yr.

Digital Lumens sales and marketing vice president Michael Feinstein said intelligence-driven efficiency is enabling facilities traditionally burdened by high lighting-related energy costs to slash usage by up to 90% over HID and HIF alternatives, while gaining better, higher quality lighting to facilitate their business operations.

"The remarkable success of Intelligent LED lighting in a wide range of industrial applications — from manufacturing and warehousing to brewing and bottling — is fueling rapidly increasing adoption rates within the commercial and industrial sectors," Feinstein added.

Founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone Brewing also owns two eclectic farm-to-table restaurants, an organic farm, an off-site events company, and a distribution unit that distributes more than 30 craft beer brands throughout Southern California.

Some of the beers produced by the brewery include Stone Pale Ale, Stone Smoked Porter, Stone India Pale Ale, Stone Ruination IPA, Stone Levitation Ale, Stone Cali-Belgique IPA, and others.
