Premium Waters Incorporated (PWI), a US-based producer of bottled water, will invest $36m to install a new production and distribution plant in Riverside, Missouri.

The new production unit is expected to provide employment to 100 individuals.

Missouri governor Jay Nixon said the resurgence of Missouri’s economy has been powered by manufacturing, and this announcement is only the latest example of new manufacturing jobs.

"The company’s deep investment in the state of Missouri, illustrated by its decision to locate its production and distribution facility in Riverside, will provide a significant boost to the Kansas City-area economy," Nixon said.

"From autos to bottled water, manufacturing continues to power our state’s economic momentum."

PWI has manufacturing facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia.

The latest invest in Riverside will include installation of a 160,000ft² building that will carry a production and distribution unit, and the bottling company will relocate 25 employees from its existing plant in Kansas City to the new location and will add additional 100 new jobs over a period of three years.

Kit Bond Strategies chairman and former US senator and Missouri governor Kit Bond said by locating their new headquarters in Riverside, Premium Waters will bring much needed new jobs and economic growth to the Kansas City region.

"This project would not have happened without Gov. Nixon and I am proud to have partnered with his team to make this plant a reality," Bond added.

The state of Missouri has approved economic incentives to the new PWI production unit at Riverside.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development authorized $1.01m in Missouri Quality Jobs and $1.3m in Missouri Build program tax incentives to PWI, which the company can use if it fulfils the required norms for providing new employment and other guidelines.

Missouri will also award a $1m Community Development Block Grant to the city of Riverside to finance infrastructural developments around the new bottling plant.

PWI produces and distributes a full range of Chippewa Spring Water, Premium Kandiyohi Purified Water and Private Label (store brand and custom label) bottled water in supermarkets, discount stores and drugstore chains, including Aldi, Hy-Vee and Walmart across the US.
