Beachwood Brewing, a California-based craft beer producer, is to expand its portfolio of beers with the introduction of Tovarish Russian Imperial Espresso Stout on 27 December 2013.

Tovarish will be the last seasonal beer of the year, the brewery said.

Brewed initially with a base of British Maris Otter barley, roasted barley and specialty malts, the bold Russian imperial stout is finished by adding black-strap molasses and a custom roasted coffee blend made by Portola Coffee Lab in Costa Mesa, California.

Beachwood Brewing brewmaster and co-owner Julian Shrago said that Tovarish is a remarkably rich and complex beer.

"Savor the layers of roast, coffee, and dark fruits with every sip," Shrago added.

Beachwood Brewing co-owner Gabriel Gordon said, "We are excited to be releasing Tovarish again, it was the first beer we bottled and it’s the perfect brew for this time of year."

To celebrate the release of Tovarish, the brewery is hosting a classic Russian fete and borscht on 27 December 2013.

Bottled at 11.2% ABV, the Tovarish Russian Imperial Espresso Stout will be available for purchase at finer craft beer retail stores across Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties.

The beer will also be available on draft at both of the Beachwood BBQ locations.

Tovarish Russian Imperial Espresso Stout will be sold at suggested retail price of $16 per 22oz bottle.

Beachwood has further lined up other beers, including Beachwood Seven, Beer of the Dragon and X-Factor #2 for future release.
