AleSmith Brewing, a San Diego-based craft brewery, has revealed its plans to move to an expanded facility.

The brewery has signed 11yr lease on a 106,000ft² building on Empire Street in the Miramar area of San Diego, California.

It plans to renovate the structure, which is expected to be completed by January 2015.

In addition to a new brewhouse, the new facility will house a cellar and bottling line from Krones.

The $10m expansion project will see the brewery increase its brewing capacity to 150,000 barrels per year.

With the increased production, AleSmith is planning to enter into new territories and to expand into North Carolina before the end of 2014.

Additionally, the brewery plans to create 25 jobs in production, retail, sales and management in the first quarter of 2015.

To fund the project, the brewery will secure loans from California Bank and Trust and from the sale of its existing facility, which is located in a 20,000ft² building on Cabot Drive.

AleSmith Brewing owner Peter Zien said after many years of hard work, he is pleased to guide AleSmith into the future with a facility that will allow their beer to reach more people and maintain their status as one of the world’s great breweries.

"AleSmith is an artisan brewery where quality, respect for the brewers’ art and customer service are paramount. We look forward to bringing the AleSmith passion, soul and commitment to excellence to our new location," Zien added.
