Stroh Brewery has announced plans to release limited-edition beer Spirit Witbier in Michigan, US.

The new beverage represents the company’s third launch since 2016, following the release of Perseverance IPA earlier this year.

To be sold until September this year, this limited-edition beer will be available on draft and in 12oz bottles at select pubs and independent beverage retailers throughout Michigan. It was created at Stroh Brewery’s Brew Detroit facility.

“The beer’s label is inspired by The Fist monument to boxing legend Joe Louis in Detroit’s Hart Plaza.”

Stroh Brewery brand manager Andy Gurjian said: “Spirit Wit continues our tradition of celebrating the special people, places and pride of Detroit in each of our locally-brewed beers.

“The beer’s label is inspired by The Fist monument to boxing legend Joe Louis in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, while the beer’s name reflects our dedication to highlighting the spirit of this great city we’re honoured to call home.”

With 4.2% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), the new Spirit Witbier combines flavours of coriander and orange peel to make a hazy wheat beer.

Originally named Lion’s Head Brewery, Stroh Brewery was established by Bernhard Stroh in 1850. The company is currently owned by US-based independent brewer Pabst Brewing.

The new beer will be promoted in August at a Spirit Wit event, featuring a ceremonial bicycle ride and after party, where the beer will be available on-tap. Attendees will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a prize draw to win an A-Type bicycle from Detroit Bikes with custom-designed paintwork.
