US-based hemp-infused speciality coffee maker Sträva Craft Coffee is planning to expand its presence in the UK and European markets.

As part of this initiative, the company has filed an application with regulators seeking approval to launch and market its products in the UK and European Union (EU).

Sträva Craft Coffee co-founder and CEO Andrew Aamot said: “The company is committed to delivering safe and effective products worldwide, and will be following the regulatory pathway set forth by the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and submitting novel food applications for the company’s ‘Peace & Wellness’ line of premium CBD infused coffee products.

“Sträva has been on the forefront of the hemp industry in the US and is now seeing strong demand emerge within the UK and European Union for high-quality CBD infused food and beverage products.”

The regulation (EU) 2015/2283 of the European Parliament has provided guidance to the EU members for ensuring a ‘free movement of safe and wholesome food’.

However, Sträva Craft Coffee noted it is not required until 31 March 2021 but obtaining approval from the FSA and EFSA can be a lengthy process.

The process would include filing detailed information regarding product safety, manufacturing practices, ingredients and product labelling, among other supporting data.

Aamot added: “International interest in Sträva’s CBD coffee products is at an all-time high, and we’re continually evaluating new market opportunities.

“We believe Europe and Asia are the most exciting emerging CBD markets for 2020, 2021 and beyond, and are positioning Sträva to be the market leader with CBD infused speciality coffee in these markets.”

The company intends to submit its applications by the fourth quarter of this year.
