Netherlands-based The Spirited Union Distillery has expanded its Spirited Union Rum range with the launch of Union Lemon & Leaf Rum.

Claimed to be world’s first botanical white rum, Union Lemon & Leaf Rum will be the second expression in the Union Rum range. It will be joining Union Spice & Sea Salt, launched earlier this year.

The Spirited Union Distillery founder Ruben Maduro said: “Our quest is to create a union between the vast and colourful world of botanicals, giving birth to vibrant and exciting botanical rums.

“The Spirited Union Distillery is a botanical rum distillery on a mission to introduce a new approach to rum. One away from artificial aromas and sickly-sweet spirits.

“We have a flavour-first approach, working with nothing but the finest natural botanicals to create vibrant and exciting new tastes. We’re excited to launch our botanical Union Lemon & Leaf Rum, which can be enjoyed with tonic, a botanical mixer or shaken in delicious cocktails.”

Produced using lemons grown along the Amalfi Coast, Union Lemon & Leaf Rum is an Agricole-style rum from Mauritius. To balance the lemon and herbal flavours, the company distils the rum using blue eucalyptus leaves.

The company explained that its Union Lemon & Leaf Rum’s grassy citrus notes produce a light and minty union when combined with the Sri Lankan Highland black tea.

Beginning from this week, the two rum variants will be available in the UK through the Drinksology Group.

Drinksology Group sales director Mike Beavan said: “We’re delighted to be working with the Spirited Union team based in Amsterdam.

“Their botanical rums are an innovative and exciting entry to the category and we’re looking forward to introducing them to Drinksology customers in both the UK on and off-trade.”

With 38% alcohol by volume (ABV), Union Lemon & Leaf Rum is available for an RSP of £29.95 per 70cl bottle. With 41% ABV Union Spice & Sea Salt Rum will be retailed for an RSP: £34.95 per 70cl bottle.
