Drive-through restaurant Sonic launches mocktail slushies in US

US-based drive-through restaurant Sonic has launched three limited-edition mocktail slushies.

The Strawberry Daiquiri, Piña Colada and Reaper Spicy Margarita slushies are available at participating Sonic drive-throughs during the store’s Happy Hour.

The Reaper Spicy Margarita infuses the classic margarita flavour with the Carolina Reaper, which is one of the world’s hottest chilli peppers. The Strawberry Daiquiri combines strawberry and sweet coconut flavours, while the Piña Colada is a tropical blend of sweet coconut and pineapple tastes. All variants are served mixed with crushed ice.

According to Sonic, mocktail slushies are available for a limited time while supplies last.

Customers can get half-price drinks and slushes when ordering on the Sonic mobile app by taking part in the company’s Happy Hour Anytime. The app is available for download on the Apple and Google Play app stores.

Sonic vice-president of product innovation and development Scott Uehlein said: “With Mocktail Slushes, we captured that summertime mocktail state of mind, combining tropical flavours with our icy, cold Slush so you can enjoy vacation vibes from the comfort of your car.

“Now, if you think you can handle the heat, take your taste buds on a different kind of trip with the Reaper Spicy Margarita – if you dare.”

Founded in 1953, Sonic is part of the Inspire Brands restaurant group, and is said to be one of the largest drive-through restaurant brands in the US with more than 3,600 locations.
