Pernod Ricard has signed an agreement with Biggar & Leith to acquire Italian gin brand Malfy.

Pernod Ricard global business development managing director Christian Porta said: “This acquisition is true to our long-standing strategy of investing in brands with strong potential in growing categories.

“In line with the launch of our Transform and Accelerate strategic plan, we will continue actively manage our fantastic portfolio of brands.”

The Malfy gin range is currently available in several international markets, including the US, Germany and the UK.

“This acquisition is true to our long-standing strategy of investing in brands with strong potential in growing categories.”

It is distilled by the Vergnano family in the Italian region of Moncalieri. Ingredients such as juniper berries, lemons, blood oranges and pink grapefruits are used to distil each gin in the Malfy range. It comprises the Originale, Con Limone, Con Arancia and Gin Rosa variants.

Biggar & Leith founder Elwyn Gladstone said: “We are excited to see Malfy gin move to the Pernod Ricard family of brands. We believe that with their stewardship and expertise in building super-premium spirits brands, Malfy will continue to flourish.”

This acquisition is part of Pernod Ricard’s strategy to expand its portfolio further into the flavoured gins category.

Last year, Pernod Ricard signed an agreement to distribute Canada gin brand Ungava in the UK market from January 2019.

In January 2016, Pernod Ricard’s German affiliate Pernod Ricard Deutschland signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in dry gin brand Monkey 47, which is produced in the Black Forest region.
