Starbucks has announced plans to expand its operations at Carson Valley Roasting Plant and Distribution Center in Minden, Nevada.

With the addition of 700,000ft² new space, the expansion is expected to be completed by next year. Starbucks intends to perform a groundbreaking ceremony on 7 June.

The $50m expanded facility will create nearly 100 new jobs within the first year after completion and increase the distribution workforce to almost 350. Starbucks intends to expand distribution to enhance capacity and streamline regional sourcing. The roasting side of the operation will remain unchanged.

Starbucks' Carson Valley Roasting Plant and Distribution Center director Todd McCullough said: “We serve all of California, Nevada, and Utah, as well as parts of Arizona and the Asia Pacific.

“We do everything here from coffee, to syrups and behind-the-bar supplies.”

McCullough has been working at the Carson Valley Roasting Center and Distribution Center since 2003. The expansion will create a range of new jobs, including managers, supervisors, coordinators, and distribution partners.

Douglas County's economic vitality manager Lisa Granahan said: “It’s been a target of the country and our Economic Vitality Program to grow more of the industrial sector.

“We’re just extremely pleased to see Starbucks' expansion and the additional jobs and further diversification of our community.

“I also believe this could support the number of working families in our community. We have seen a decline in our school system over the years. We’d just really love to see our school numbers rise again.”
