Pernod Ricard North America's unit and Pernod Ricard USA's affiliate NBV Investments (NBVI) has signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in spirits firm Smooth Ambler Spirits.

Smooth Ambler distills and produces spirits such as Smooth Ambler Contradiction bourbon and Old Scout single barrel bourbon.

The transaction is expected to close early next year. Financial details have not been disclosed. The deal is subject to regulatory approval.

Established in 2009, Smooth Ambler Spirits is situated in the Greenbrier Valley of West Virginia, the US.

NBVI president Jeff Agdern said: “We are very impressed by Smooth Ambler’s successful track record, and we are excited to partner with that team as they continue to produce high-quality American Whiskeys."

In addition to the bourbon expressions, the firm produces gins, vodkas, rums and whiskeys made of natural resources and ingredients.

Smooth Ambler co-founder and head distiller John Little said: “Smooth Ambler is committed to making great spirits, using the best American ingredients.

“The investment from NBVI will enable us to introduce our premium craft spirits to many more consumers.”

Under the terms of the agreement, John Little will undertake the role of chief executive officer and John Foster will continue as director of sales and marketing.
