Nestlé UK & Ireland has signed a new long term contract with First Milk.

First Milk has been supplying fresh British milk to Nestlé UK & Ireland since 2003, and this partnership focused on building a sustainable supply chain.

The Nestlé First Milk Partnership comprises 101 farmers in Ayrshire and Cumbria.

Nestlé UK & Ireland's responsible sourcing lead and milk buyer Robin Sundaram said: "We are delighted to renew our commitment to First Milk and to our Nestlé farmers. Good quality milk is a key ingredient in some of our iconic brands such as Nescafé Frothy Coffee and KitKat.

"We look forward to continuing our strategic long-term partnership to drive our vision of supporting our farmers and our environment.”

First Milk's chief executive officer (CEO) Mike Gallacher said: “Nestlé is a hugely important customer for First Milk and I am delighted to see this relationship renewed for the long term.

"Nestlé has consistently supported British Dairy farmers and is at the forefront of driving best practice on responsible sourcing and sustainability. Initiatives like our shared Next Generation Young Farmer Programme demonstrate a long term and strategic commitment to the UK supply chain.”

First Milk delivers fresh British milk to two Nestlé manufacturing sites. Scotland-based Girvan produces chocolate crumb, while Dalston in Cumbria makes beverage products such as Nescafé Frothy Coffee.

In February 2016, Nestlé and First Milk launched the Next Generation Dairy Leaders Programme to identify and develop the next generation of young dairy farmers.

The programme is part of Nestlé’s long-term partnership with First Milk to boost sustainability of its farms and develop an  efficient supply chain, with a reduced environmental impact.
