Mossburn Distillers plans to open a new distillery plant near the former Jedforest Hotel in Camptown, in the Scottish Borders, with a £40m investment.

The firm has sought permission from the Scottish Borders Council to carry out its plan. A decision is expected later this year.

Mossburn Distillers claimed the new distillery will create 50 full-time job opportunities and would also feature a 200-seat restaurant.

Several such schemes are in the pipeline in the Scottish Borders, where currrently there is no distillery, reported BBC.

The Three Stills Company has also submitted plans to develop a distillery on the Commercial Road in Hawick.

Mossburn Distillers also has plans to construct the Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye.
