US-based Milestone Brands has acquired Dulce Vida Spirits, the parent company of Dulce Vida Tequila, for an undisclosed amount.

Milestone Brands was formed in February this year by Eric Dopkins, former CEO of Deep Eddy Vodka. He will lead the company as CEO and chairman, along with co-founder of Deep Eddy Vodka, Chad Auler, who will serve as president.

Milestone Brands co-founder and CEO Dopkins said: "We have been working for the last several months on acquisitions and are excited for the future of Milestone Brands.

"The tequila category is robust and expected to outpace the spirits category over the next five years."

"Dulce Vida Tequilas has much potential for growth and expansion, and we are so pleased to announce Dulce Vida Spirits as our first acquisition."

In 2009, Dulce Vida Spirits was founded in Austin, Texas. It launched Dulce Vida Tequila, claimed to be a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified organic tequila.

This drink is now sold across 17 states in the country.

Milestone Brands co-founder Chad Auler said: "The tequila category is robust and expected to outpace the spirits category over the next five years.

"Dulce Vida Tequilas has tremendous potential to break through, and we are excited to relaunch the brand and breathe new life into the existing line of tequilas."

Milestone Brands will retain all employees of Dulce Vida Spirits.
