St. Louis-based Luxco has plans to build a new tequila distillery on 3.5ha land in Mexico.

The distillery, DGL Destiladores (Destiladora González Luxco), will be located just outside the city of Arandas in the highlands of Jalisco.

Jalisco is a prime location for growing quality agave that is used in premium tequilas.

Construction is expected to be completed soon and the company expects to begin distillation in mid-summer.

Alfonso Dominguez Zamudio will serve as the distillery manager working under the guidance of master distiller Rodolfo González.

"Luxco has seen incredible growth in our tequila portfolio, especially in the Exotico and El Mayor brands."

Luxco's chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Donn Lux said: “We are thrilled to once again join forces with the González family, our longtime tequila partners on this distillery and continue servicing our collective need for high-quality, 100% agave tequila.

“Luxco has seen incredible growth in our tequila portfolio, especially in the Exotico and El Mayor brands, and this new distillery will allow us to further expand our production and enhance the brands.”

Once fully operational, DGL will employ around 35 employees and will have the cooking capacity for 60tn of agave in pot stills.
