Canadian company Guru has introduced Organic Lite energy drink, which is produced using monk fruit as a natural sweetener.

Monk fruit is used in traditional Chinese medicine due to its antioxidant properties. Its flesh is claimed to make products taste up to 300 times sweeter than white sugar.

Organic Lite is claimed to be a certified organic energy drink. It is approved by ECOCERT Canada, verified genetically modified organism (GMO) free, gluten-free, and vegan.

Guru sales and marketing vice-president Carl Goyette said: "We are proud to offer Canadian consumers certified organic products for health and energy that are low in calories and free of artificial sweeteners.

"[Monk Fruit] flesh is claimed to make products taste up to 300 times sweeter than white sugar."

“Organic Lite was a challenge for us because we wanted to remain faithful to the taste of the original product.

“We are thrilled to introduce monk fruit, a natural sweetener with remarkable benefits."

The energy drink will be available across grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, and online platforms.

Established in 1999, Guru's product portfolio includes Guru Organic energy drink, Guru Organic Lite energy drink, and Organic Energy Water infused with energising green tea flavoured with grapefruit, lime, or pomegranate.
