Edrington, a Scotch whisky distiller that owns the Famous Grouse and The Macallan brands, plans to close its office in Perth, Scotland and move to a new headquarters (HQ) in Glasgow.

Presently, its essential headquarters functions are divided between offices in Great Western Road in Glasgow and West Kinfauns in Perth. By 2017, the firm intends to merge all these functions.

The office at Great Western Road in Glasgow will continue to remain open, but the office at West Kinfauns will be closed.

"The distiller plans to work closely with the affected employees throughout the consultation process."

Edrington spokesperson was quoted by the Spirits Business as saying that this move may lead to small number of redundancies.

According to a BBC report, there could be up to 21 job cuts.

The other six locations spread across Scotland will not be impacted.

Edrington CEO Ian Curle was quoted by the Spirits Business as saying: "Glasgow is where it all started for our founders William Robertson and John Baxter in 1861.

"Bringing together our essential HQ functions in a new central Glasgow location will help us to continue to compete successfully in a tough global market and to capitalise on what we see as positive long-term prospects for the industry.

"This development will not only secure our position as one of Scotland’s leading businesses, but also help us to continue investing in our premium brands at home and abroad, which in turn contributes to the on-going success of Scotch whisky, Scottish exports and the Scottish economy."

The move will see around 90 jobs being shifted from Perth, reported BBC.
