BrewDog, a Scottish brewer, has introduced The End of History, a beer that contains 55% alcohol by volume (ABV), in the US.

The launch comes in the wake of Ohio House Bill 37 coming into effect this week, which has removed the 12% ABV limit on beers both made and sold in the state.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt said: “As we establish milestones of our own and celebrate historic moments in Ohio’s beer industry, it seemed natural to introduce ‘The End of History’ to America.

"We can see beer enthusiasts are chomping at the bit to invest in our mission’s expansion into America."

“Having raised more than $1 million in the first 72 hours of our Equity for Punks USA initiative, we can see beer enthusiasts are chomping at the bit to invest in our mission’s expansion into America.

“This release of The End of History marks a significant milestone for our homeland away from home, and invites investors to claim a piece of brewing history for themselves.”

BrewDog also plans to establish its brewery in Ohio later this year.

The name ‘The End of History’ was derived from the famous work of philosopher Francis Fukuyama. The company produced only 12 bottles in 2010, each coming with its own certificate and presented in a taxidermy squirrel.

The drink contains nettles from the Scottish Highlands and fresh juniper berries. To achieve the alcohol content, BrewDog’s brewers have used an extreme freezing technique whereby the drink has been kept at temperatures well below freezing to separate the water from the solution.

The process has been repeated several times, using hundreds of gallons of beer to produce just enough for a handful of exclusive bottles.
