US-based Bolthouse Farms has voluntarily recalled 277,000 bottles of certain protein drinks due to possible spoilage, which may cause the drinks to appear lumpy, taste unpleasant, and have a foul odour.

The company has urged consumers to discard these products or return them to the store from which they purchased them for a full refund.

The issue was identified when the company received complaints from customers including reports of illness. It is currently investigating the issue.

The recalled products are Protein PLUS Chocolate 450ml/15.2oz, Protein PLUS Chocolate 946ml/32oz, Protein PLUS Vanilla Bean 946ml/32oz, Mocha Cappuccino Perfectly Protein, and Mocha Cappuccino Perfectly Protein.

The products were distributed in Canada. They carry universal product codes (UPC) of 0-71464-30650-2, 0-71464-30651-9, 0-71464-01640-1, 0-71464-30050-0, and 0-71464-30051-7.

Best before dates are printed on the cap and label at the neck of the bottle, and the UPC appears on the bar code.

Bolthouse Farms produces refrigerated products, and sells fresh juice beverages.
