Bardstown distillery

The Bardstown Bourbon Company has announced plans to invest around $25m to establish a new distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky.

The distillery will be constructed in the Nelson County Industrial Park on an area of around 45,000ft².

Construction on the facility is expected to commence in summer 2014 and opening is scheduled in 2016.

When operational, the proposed distillery will produce bourbon and other spirits using local ingredients.

Bardstown Bourbon will also construct a visitor centre and warehouses.

Lebanon Senator Jimmy Higdon said that Bardstown is becoming one of Kentucky’s most visited cities, as the bourbon industry is growing continuously.

"I appreciate companies like The Bardstown Bourbon Company investing in our community," added Higdon.

Bardstown Bourbon president and CEO David Mandell said, "The Bardstown Bourbon Company will be a celebration of the Bardstown community, from the local ingredients we use to produce our product and the team that designs and builds our distillery, to the employees that distill, barrel and store our bourbons."

The company will receive $1m in tax incentives from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority through the Kentucky Business Investment program and $300,000 worth tax benefits under the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act.

Currently, Bourbon distilling contributes about $2bn in gross state product annually.
