Ardross Investments has submitted a plan with Scotland’s Highland Council to convert an old farm at Andross, Ross-shire, into a whisky distillery and tasting lodge.

The firm plans to commence production at the facility by 2018.

Once the new distillery becomes operational, it will provide 15 full or part time jobs, reported pressandjournal.co.uk.

"This distillery is expected to be similar to Ballindalloch distillery in Moray with regard to size and style."

When the distillery reaches full-scale production, it will produce around one million litres each year.

A tasting lodge will be also constructed north of the distillery.

This distillery is expected to be similar to Ballindalloch distillery in Moray with regard to size and style. The design of the Andross distillery will be a blend of modern and the traditional.

Ardross community council chairman Peter Allen was quoted by the website as saying: “The buildings there have been in poor condition for about 30 years. They just fell into disrepair and have become a bit of an eyesore, so this is a good thing for these properties.

“There will likely be a lot more jobs created during construction but when they had a meeting with us they were speaking about 12 permanent jobs."
