7-Eleven has expanded its private brand wines with the launch of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio offerings under its Trojan Horse brand.

The retailer claims that Trojan Horse Chardonnay offers aromas of ripe pear and stone fruit, with vanilla, fruit, caramel, and toasted oak flavours.

Trojan Horse Pinot Grigio is said to offer citrus and green apple aromas, a citrus fruit flavour, and a crisp and clean finish.

All of the grapes used in the two new wine offerings were grown in California.

7-Eleven director of private brands Tim Cogil said: "To create the flavour profile we wanted, the Trojan Horse wines were custom developed with grapes from different California valleys.

"We benchmarked both the chardonnay and pinot grigio against some of the most popular brands, and in taste tests, they came out on top. As with all our private brand products, our goal is to exceed quality expectations when compared to national brands while offering a great value."

Equipped with Stelvin closure, the two wines are available for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $6.99 for a 750ml bottle at the vault.

7-Eleven vice-president of vault Dennis Phelps said: "With Trojan Horse, 7-Eleven customers can enjoy higher quality chardonnay and pinot grigio wines at an affordable price.

"We believe these will be a hit with wine-loving millennials, and customers can still enjoy our Yosemite Road branded wines, which make up four of the top ten selling wines at 7-Eleven."

First introduced in 2009, Yosemite Road-branded wines were four of the top ten selling wines at 7-Eleven stores in 2016.
