Nestlé has opened a new 12,740m² coffee plant for its Bonjorno brand in Egypt with an investment of EGP250m ($14m).

Featuring advanced coffee-making technologies, the new plant is expected to provide around 7,000 indirect jobs alongside the current 240 direct employees.

The plant’s eight production lines have a capacity of 14,000t, which is expected to reach 22,000-44,000t in the future.

“This factory opening reflects Nestlé’s ambition to invest in Egypt and foster the development of the rapidly growing soluble coffee segment.”

Nestlé executive vice-president and operations head Magdi Batato said: “We are delighted to inaugurate this new factory, which operates using Nestlé’s strong manufacturing and innovation capabilities leveraging the most advanced technology.

“This factory opening reflects Nestlé’s ambition to invest in Egypt and foster the development of the rapidly growing soluble coffee segment, which has been gaining popularity among Egyptians. We aim to have the Bonjorno factory as an export hub for coffee in the region.”

The inauguration follows Nestlé’s acquisition of the Egyptian instant coffee company and Caravan Marketing Company (CMC) in January last year.

Nestlé North East Africa chairman and CEO Moataz El-Hout said: “The inauguration of our third factory reflects the importance of Egypt to us and our confidence is clearly highlighted by the extensive investments we have made in Egypt over the past five years.

“We have been part of the Egyptians’ lives for over 100 years and we are confident that Egypt offers great business and economic opportunities.”

Nestlé operates 10 facilities and offers direct employment to almost 8,000 people across North Africa and The Middle East.
